Model Building at its Best at Faszination Modellbau Bremen
Once again this year, the 3rd Faszination Modellbau Bremen inspired visitors young and old with its mix of activities including spectacular shows, attractive demonstrations and a world class sales exhibition. 150 exhibitors from 8 countries presented everything conceivable covering the topics of model railroading, model aeroplane building and model shipbuilding, cardboard and plastic model building, as well as truck and car model building Model ships circled on the water, remote controlled trucks propelled themselves over earth and debris, small RC slowflyers flew breathtaking pirouettes right on up to the ceiling and model railways leisurely made their tours on beautifully constructed model railroad layouts. Those who were not deterred from visiting the 3rd Faszination Modellbau Bremen by the sudden, extraordinarily harsh onset of winter in northern Germany over the weekend were rewarded. Model building at its best awaited the visitors with numerous demonstrations, special shows and product offerings for all possible model building preferences. Even Bremen’s mayor and President of the Bremen Senate, Jens Böhrnsen, identified himself as a passionate model builder at the opening of Faszination Modellbau Bremen, and was highly impressed by the comprehensive offerings presented at the trade fair. With just under 23,000 visitors, last year’s visitor numbers were fallen short of. This was due to the harsh onset of winter which greatly impaired traffic on the streets and railways in and around Bremen, and resulted in a chaotic traffic situation.“Above all, the massive onset of winter deterred visitors from Bremen and the surrounding regions from visiting the model building trade fair. According to a visitor survey, fewer visitors with long travel distances attended than in the last two years”, sums up Andreas Wittur, authorised signatory for Messe Sinsheim, which organises Faszination Modellbau in Bremen. The mix of experiences conjured up by the exhibitors and participating clubs in the exhibition halls in Bremen was brilliant despite the weather. Model shipbuilding called the tune in hall 6. Lots of action was offered on the large water basin during demonstrations of various model ships, and treasures could also be viewed on the large pedestal systems. World renowned model ship builder Hans-Jürgen Mottschall from Hamburg presented a selection of his outstanding models, for which he has won 84 national and international awards to date, and 15 of these were gold medals taken at world championships. The TRUCKmodel Festival and the military model course inspired numerous visitors. Aircraft model enthusiasts found what they were looking for right next door in hall 5, and were captivated by the impressive Airliner special show and the spectacular FMT-Indoor-Action for RC electro slowflyers. The tempo was extremely quick on the hovercraft rides for everyone and anyone. Interested visitors were able to test the model hovercraft themselves, which had only recently been premiered as a world’s first. Plastic and cardboard model building, as well as car and truck model building, offered fascinating insights as well. Participants at the TRUCKmodel Trials had to conquer a earthen course including a torrential stream with their remote controlled models in full view of the visitors. Crowds pressed in around the model railways to see numerous attractive show layouts in all gauges. Model building fans were able to stock up on everything they could possible wish for in the field of model railroading. The Junior College Europe of the Bund Deutscher Eisenbahn-Freunde (German association of railroad enthusiasts) met with great approval, at which up-and-coming model builders were offered expert supervision and were able to take things into their own hands at various workstations for model house building, timetable information, layout planning and garden landscaping. The 4th Faszination Modellbau Bremen will take place from the 20th through the 22nd of November, 2009.
